You know what? I miss flatlays on Instagram. Where did they go?

Oof. I'm at the point of the PhD (thesis submission in September) when criticism feels overwhelming and praise makes me cry. I'm behind on admin and correspondence and my working memory is shot. So I'm granting myself a bare-minimum week. Wednesday is the only day I've got stuff in the calendar (although that's three pretty big things for one day) so for the rest of the week I'm going to do the bare-minimum of writing, corrections, admin, and housework. I'm replacing them with TV, sudoku, tea and biscuits.

Today I am very tired but very happy after attending a two-day international neurodiversity conference in Edinburgh. Getting to see some of my favourite academics was really cool (even if I did get starstruck and incoherently gush at one of them over how much I love their writing 😳). There are so many brilliant new research projects and ND-informed health, wellbeing and education initiatives that make my heart sing!

I've had a lifetime of people misinterpreting my facial expressions, and social situations are extra tiring when I need to be hypervigilant about making the "correct" faces. But it's been kinda fun modelling a range of genuine v posed emotional expressions for Lily's A level art project. This is the last in a set of six oil paintings she's made and is my very favourite. This is me laughing.

Time is going too fast for me right now. Too much to think about. Too much data to analyse. Too many words to write. But I am trying to make sure I catch and appreciate lovely fleeting moments too. The frost in my garden before it melts. Guinness cake on my tongue before it dissolves. The sunset reflected on my wall before it fades

I can't tell you how glorious the high is for me right after I've delivered neurodiversity training. That giddy and blissful state of mind similar to being completely immersed at a live music gig.

Beeswax candles, frosty mornings, woollen blankets, tea & mince pies, low sunlight patches on the walls, early nights, mulled cider, slow-cooked stews, warm socks, spiky teasels and pearlescent dried honesty pods.
